Fall Bulk Leaf Collection

Print

Please note - if snow is forecast, do not rake leaves into the curb or street - snow removal operations will take precedence over leaf collection operations! Snow plows may push leaves/snow back into your yard. Please wait until after roadways have been cleared to collect leaves for pickup.

The Town of Leesburg’s Public Works Department will begin its annual fall bulk leaf collection schedule on Monday, October 20, 2014. Crews will collect non-bagged leaves placed at the curb in all quadrants of the Town throughout the leaf season. Final leaf pickup for the season is scheduled for the week of January 5 through January 9, 2015.

Leaves will be collected as follows:

Southwest, Southeast, Northwest & Northeast – There will be a crew in each quadrant through out the leaf season (October 20, 2014 - January 9, 2015).

As of Tuesday, November 25th, 4 leaf collection crews have been working to get through each quadrant as quickly as possible. With the forecast calling for significant snowfall on Wednesday, November 26th, leaf collection will be suspended Tuesday afternoon to prepare vehicles for service as spreaders and plows in response to the impending snow. As noted above, snow plowing operations will take precedence over leaf collection. Crews will resume collection of leaves as soon as it is possible to do so.

**********Attention All Quadrants**********

  • Please rake your leaves to about four feet from the edge of the curb by Sunday night of each collection week during the leaf pickup season. Crews will be running lead collection 5 days per week (and on some holidays) throughout the remainder of leaf season. We cannot guarantee a date or time when crews will reach a particular street. Volume is currently very heavy and it takes crews approximately 2 weeks to complete each quadrant.
  • Please do not place leaves in front of or into storm drains.
  • On streets without curb and gutter, residents should place leaves as close as possible to the front property line, closest to the street.
  • Inclement weather (heavy rains or snow) or a heavy fall of leaves may extend the collection period for the affected quadrants.

(Closed for holidays: Full days Thanksgiving Day and Friday following Thanksgiving; 1/2 day on December 24th, full days on Dec 25th and Dec 26th, half day on December 31st and full day on January 1, 2015.)

AFTER the week of January 5-9, 2015, leaves must be set out in covered trash cans with handles and yard waste stickers or biodegradable paper yard waste bags, for recycling.

Please note: Market Street divides the town North and South.
King Street divides the town East and West.

When preparing leaves for collection, please follow these guidelines:

DO

Don't

Rake leaves to the curb by Sunday night each week of the collection season.

Do not place leaves in front of or next to storm drain inlets. Where possible leave a gap between leaves and the curb line to allow water to flow unrestricted into the storm drain inlets.

Rake leaves no more than 4 feet from the edge of the curb

Do not rake leaves into the street or in front of/around hydrants or utility boxes

Rake leaves as close to the property line as possible if you do not have a curb/sidewalk in front of your home

Do not allow children to play in leaf piles and do not park vehicles or leave other equipment in or around leaf piles (rakes, etc.)

Do not mix with grass clipping, yard waste or other brush items

Leaves Mixed with Yard Waste

The bulk leaf pickup uses a vacuum truck and is designed for leaves only.  Other materials can damage equipment or cause injury to crew members if mixed in with leaves.

Please do not mix leaves with:

    • Trash
    • Recycling
    • Branches/Tree Limbs
    • Shrub Clippings
    • Vines
    • Dirt
    • Sod or Grass Clippings
    • Other Yard Waste

Inclement weather (heavy rains or snow) or a heavy fall of leaves may extend the collection period for the affected quadrants.  The Town will post updates to this page to announce changes to the schedule or delays in collection - please check back for news and information during the leaf collection season.

Final leaf pickup for the season will be the week of January 5-9, 2015, for non bagged/canned leaves placed at the curb for bulk collection.
