America’s 9/11 Foundation holds an annual commemorative motorcycle ride in remembrance of all who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 attacks, aftermath and recovery. The ride travels from Somerset, Pennsylvania to the Pentagon, then to the site of the World Trade Center in New York City. On Friday, August 17, 2012, the motorcycle procession will travel through Leesburg beginning at about 2:00 p.m.
The ride will go south on Highway 15 Business into Leesburg, continuing southbound on King Street through the Historic Downtown. Riders will then take the Route 7/15 Bypass east to the Dulles Greenway, where riders will enter the Dulles Greenway and travel to the Pentagon.
During the procession through town, King Street will be closed to all traffic. In addition, all King Street intersections will be closed to east-west cross traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. Riders could arrive in Leesburg as early as 2:00 p.m., however this time is dependent on weather, construction, and other traffic conditions.
