Leesburg Police Department Investigates Fatal Car Crash on Leesburg Bypass on 5-2-2012
On May 2, 2012 at 1:06 PM, the Leesburg Police Department Emergency Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a car crash on the Leesburg Bypass that had occurred in the area between South King Street entrance ramp and the Dulles Greenway (Route 267) entry ramp. Loudoun County Fire and Rescue units responded and officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon the arrival of the public safety personnel, the two cars involved were located in the eastbound lanes of the bypass.
As a result of the preliminary investigation, Philip Green Jr, age 27, of Winchester, Virginia, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu four door, black in color, westbound on the Leesburg Bypass. The vehicle driven by Green crossed the grassy median and traveled into the eastbound lanes of the bypass where it struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck driven by a 48 year old male from Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The Chevrolet Malibu flipped over after striking the pick up truck. Due to injuries as a result of the crash, Philip Green Jr did not survive and was pronounced dead at the crash site.
The driver of the pick up truck was severely injured. He was flown to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment of his injuries. As the time of this press release, he was listed in critical condition.
The Leesburg Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team, along with members from the Loudoun County Sheriffs Office Crash Reconstruction Unit, gathered evidence and completed the preliminary investigation. The Leesburg Bypass was completely re-opened at 6:27 PM.
