Leesburg, VA (July 6, 2012) – The Town of Leesburg’s annual
Independence Day Parade was held Wednesday, July 4, 2012, through the historic downtown. Spectators of all ages filled King Street to see patriotic floats, animals, classic cars and more.

The parade featured the 5th annual
Patriot Cup competition, sponsored by Leesburg Today. This year’s winners were the “Patriotic Pedalers” a group bicycle entry comprised of the Klemm and Smith families of Leesburg (pictured at right). This competitive category is awarded to the top patriotic entry, with the winners’ names to be engraved onto the Patriot Cup. The Cup will be on display at the Leesburg Town Hall.
Despite sweltering temperatures, the evening concert and fireworks at
Ida Lee Park saw large crowds, with 22,000 in estimated attendance. With a variety of food vendors on-hand, live entertainment by the
Rob Byer Band and
Faded Image as well as the largest fireworks show in Northern Virginia, the event drew visitors from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland as well as locals to enjoy the evening celebration.
