Urban Forestry Management Plan - The overarching goal of Leesburg’s Urban Forestry Management Plan is to guide the Town’s efforts to recover the loss of tree canopy and enhance all tree-related benefits by recommending strategies and actions to improve the Town’s urban forest management in an equitable, economic, and sustainable manner.
|
| Urban Tree Canopy Assessment – The goal of the study project was to complete a detailed assessment of the current physical tree coverage of the Town and to determine the extent of available spaces for increasing the canopy, using high resolution satellite imagery via USDA Forest Service protocols. |
Welcome to the Town of Leesburg’s Urban Forestry program
Did you know you live in a forest? An urban forest simply consists of all the trees, both public and private, which are found growing in and around your community. Urban trees provide many benefits to all who live, work and play in the community. In Leesburg, only the public trees in parks, along roadways, and around public buildings are managed under
the Urban Forestry program.
What is Urban Forestry?
Urban Forestry is the science and comprehensive
management of planting and maintaining trees in public spaces to ensure healthy, productive and safe trees to maximize their social, economic and ecological benefits.
We hope the information provided on this website deepens your appreciation for all of the trees that make Leesburg green. Learn more about the benefits of street-side trees by using the National Tree Benefit Calculator
