Authentic, historic architecture is a photographer and historian's dream. Guided Walking Tours that begin at the Loudoun Museum, or a with cup of coffee in the new Market Street Coffee are all part of Leesburg's ambiance. Home to the Loudoun County Courthouse, only in downtown Leesburg will one hear the clock chime every hour on the hour as a reminder of the history that envelopes the town.

The Loudoun Museum, Leesburg Executive Airport, the George C. Marshall International Center at Dodona Manor, Morven Park , Oatlands and Thomas Balch Genealogy Library provide the historic backdrop to the Leesburg. If you're interested in your family history or local lore, a quiet day at the Balch Library is the perfect way to spend the day.

View of street from above.The Town of Leesburg, founded in 1758 is one of Virginia's most picturesque and best-preserved communities by the National Trust for Historic Preservation standards. As the seat of government for the country's fastest growing county, Leesburg has been successful at preserving its heritage, while embracing the advantages of being just fifteen minutes from Dulles International Airport and less than one hour from Washington D.C. A day trip or for an entire weekend, one mustn't miss the opportunity to discover the charm, history, character, shopping, dining and recreation offered in Leesburg.

Balls Bluff Battlefield Regional Park – Civil War Battlefield on the Potomac River hill where the Union troops fell backward into the river in a defeat that merited a congressional investigation. Self-guided tours. Guided group tours by appointment. Great photo opportunities.

Bluemont Concert Series – 2008 Concert Series now underway.

Dodona Manor – Located in Leesburg's historic district, Dodona Manor was the home of General George C. Marshall from 1941-1959. Marshall was architect of the Allied Victory for World War II, Special Ambassador to China, Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, and a Nobel Peace Laureate. Historic home and gardens are open year round; hours Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and from June through August, Mondays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Last daily tour begins at 4 p.m. Call (703) 777-1301 for information or to book a group tour.

Leesburg First Friday – Historic Leesburg's fine art galleries, specialty shops, theatre and restaurants offer a delightful evening out from 6-9PM the First Friday of every month except January.

Historic Downtown – Leesburg's Historic District offers an ever changing mix of one of a kind shops, restaurants, galleries, spas and small businesses.

Art GalleryLeesburg Antique Dealers & Collectibles Leesburg is an antique capital of the area, with more than 18 shops and antique shows throughout the year. The professionals are happy to help you with home interior ideas and assist with appraisals and furniture finishing.

Loudoun Museum – Museum exhibits present three centuries of Loudoun heritage from its earliest history to the present.  Year-round Children’s Discovery Room and special, changing exhibits.  Walking tours of historic Leesburg, May to October by reservation. Closed January 1, Thanksgiving and December 24-25, (phone to confirm holiday schedule.)

Morven Park — Morven Park is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is operated in the public interest by the Westmoreland Davis Memorial Foundation, Inc. Morven Park is on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Virginia Historic Landmark.

Thomas Balch Library for History & Genealogy — Thomas Balch Library is a history and genealogy library owned and operated by the Town of Leesburg.  Collections focus on Loudoun County, regional and Virginia history, genealogy, military history with special emphasis on the American Civil War, and ethnic history. It is designated as an Underground Railroad research site.
